Engineering meets sociology The technical specifications outline a 250-year space journey carrying between 750 and 1,500 people to a rocky planet equipped with an artificial ecosystem. Unlike current space habitats, which typically support crews for up to six months, this vessel would need to maintain Earth-like conditions for centuries. The design must incorporate rotation-based artificial gravity and comprehensive protection systems against radiation and impacts, creating a sustainable environment far beyond anything currently in operation.

Living in a cosmic bubble
The competition’s unique approach requires each submission team to include an architect, engineer, and social scientist – a combination that highlights the project’s focus on human factors.
